And Why the Heck Don't They Have This System in the U.S?!
This past Spring Quarter, I had an internship in Sacramento that I had to be at everyday at 9 am. The driving time for me to get to this internship from my apartment in Davis is about 20 minutes, but because I don't like spending money on gas (plus the greenhouse gas emissions and what not), so I decided to take the bus. However, because the bus system in our area is so inefficient, I would have to take the bus AT 7:30 IN THE MORNING (I am not a morning person), an entire hour an a half before I was needed at my internship. Similarly, it takes about 20 minutes on my Unitrans line to get on campus (my house is 1 mile away). Compared to the Vienna tram and metro system, this is absolutely ridiculous. The system is incredibly efficient, and I never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes for a train. I know Vienna is probably a bit smaller than the distance between Davis and Sacramento on the 80, but I never had to spend more than a half an hour on the train system, no matter how far away I had to go. Needless to say, Vienna's public transport is amazing, cheap, fast, and there are stops everywhere!
